AutoGrid extends its market leadership in flexibility management by ranking highest across strategy and execution categories.

Redwood City, Calif., April 2, 2020 – AutoGrid Systems, the Energy Internet leader, today announced that Navigant Research,  a leading independent research firm, has ranked AutoGrid as the #1 Virtual Power Plant Platform provider in its latest Leaderboard Report published in April 2020.

According to Navigant, VPPs help transform formerly passive consumers into active prosumers through integration and optimization of new technologies, such as demand response (DR), solar PV systems, advanced batteries, and EVs. Prosumers become active participants in delivering services tailored to their own needs, but when called on, can also serve the needs of the larger grid. VPPs can be classified as demand-side (or behind-the-meter assets), supply-side (or utility-scale renewable and storage), or mixed assets (both supply-side and demand-side).

“AutoGrid distinguished itself from the pack by the quality of customer wins, its recent partnership announcements, and the breadth of use cases supported by its AutoGrid Flex platform” said Peter Asmus, research director with Navigant Research. “AutoGrid Flex helps maximize the return on investment in energy assets, such as battery storage, whether assets are deployed in homes or buildings or as part of commercial and industrial microgrids. Its VPP platform can also optimize electric vehicle fleets as grid resources and can tap utility-scale front-of-the-meter projects that trade in wholesale energy markets, as well as provide frequency regulation and other grid services.”

This Leaderboard from Navigant Research ranks 15 VPP platform providers capable of creating demand-side, supply-side and mixed-asset VPPs. The providers are rated on the following criteria: vision; go-to-market strategy; partners/acquisitions/investors; DERMS integration strategy; technology scope; geographic reach; sales, marketing, and distribution; platform performance; value chain capture; project portfolio; business model; and staying power. Navigant states, “the companies in this Leaderboard epitomize the innovation bubbling up from smaller innovators, often being used by larger more traditional technology companies”.

The Navigant report cites AutoGrid’s successful project experience in some of the fastest growing markets for VPPs including the US, China, Japan, Australia, and across many regions in Europe, as well as an extensive network of partners that includes Schneider Electric and Amazon Web Services. AutoGrid customers include the Who’s Who of Energy-As-A-Service providers, renewable energy project developers and utilities globally, many of whom have also chosen to become investors in the company.

“We are delighted that Navigant Research has recognized AutoGrid’s leadership in one of the fastest growing market segments in new energy by naming AutoGrid Flex as the #1 VPP Platform operating today”, said Dr. Amit Narayan, Founder & CEO of AutoGrid. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our employees, customers, and partners for their tireless work towards helping spawn a new industry as we collectively strive towards a sustainable energy future for the planet.”
